Twin Cities Volkssports

For anyone unfamiliar with TCV or volkssports, I'd like to give a brief introduction.  TCV is a volunteer-based, non-profit club that organizes non-competitive walk events (as well as a few bike, cross-country ski, and snowshoe events) throughout Minnesota, but focuses primarily in the Twin Cities.  The events are open to everyone - membership is not required, but there is a small fee to cover our expenses.  For more information, please visit the Volkssport Intro or Volkssport Details pages in the About Us menu.

 

If you are familiar with TCV, you've probably noticed that we have a new site.  Before I point out the changes, I’d like to thank Barb McGregor and Sue Bergman for creating the previous site and maintaining it for the past seven years. That Geocities site served us well - providing a convenient way for everyone to learn about our club, programs, event calendar, etc. But, Geocities decided to stop providing free webhosting, so we had to make a change (at least in the address).

 

This new site has some similarities to the old site, but there are also several differences. The first change you may have noticed is the easier-to-remember domain name. I think that’s something we can all appreciate and that might even make it easier for new people to find us. There's also an interactive map showing the starting points of our events (more useful if you have a fast internet connection). Something else that many of you will notice is the addition of a members-only section that includes articles about events, copies of the newsletter and board meeting minutes, POC Resources, and an opportunity to learn more about fellow walkers. Another change that fewer people will notice is that the site is designed so that it can be updated by people with no programming experience - such as if a POC wants to make changes to their event description or add photos.
