2010 Year-Round Events

 

Year-round events (YREs) are available from January 1 through December 31.

Each of these events may be completed once for IVV event credit before July 1st.  Then each may be walked again for IVV event credit during the second half of the year.  If you are participating for distance credit, you may walk/bike them as often as you wish - simply pay your fee, complete the event, stamp your IVV distance book, and record your distance.

Awards/Fees - Awards may be available: prices vary.  Credit only: $3.  Non-credit: $2.

Bloomington: Mall of America - Start Point: Country Inn & Suites, 2221 Killebrew Dr.  Times: daily, during mall hours, usually 7am to 9pm  Description: 5k & 10k walks.  Walk entirely within the Mall of America on all 4 levels - walk and shop at the same time.  Please respect shoppers.  Rating: 1  Special Programs: H Directions: The Mall of America is located between 24th and Cedar Avenue just south of I-494.  Go east on I-494 to Cedar Avenue (Hwy 77) exit 2C, then take Killebrew Dr.  Turn right into Country Inn & Suites motel across from Macy's.  Contact: Kevin Carlson, (651) 487-1634

 

Minneapolis: Lake Harriet - Start Point: Bayers Best Hardware, 4312 Upton Ave S.  Times: M-F: 8am-8pm, Sat: 8am-6pm, Sun: noon-4pm Closed most holidays - call (612) 926-1605 for hours.  Description: 5k, 6k, 7k, 10k, or 11k walk.  7/10/11k routes begin at the start point and includes the Linden Hills neighborhood as well as the lake, three gardens, and a bird sanctuary. 5/6k routes begin at Lake Harriet (must drive to it) and does not include the residential area.  Paved, gravel & woodchip trails and city sidewalks.  Rating: 1+ Special Programs: A, C, D, E, F, J, M, N, R  Directions: From Crosstown Hwy 62, go north on Xerxes Ave approx. 2 miles.  Turn right on W 42nd St and follow it 3 blocks.  Turn right on Upton and continue another block.  Contact: Lee Moisant, (612) 861-3053

 

Minneapolis: Lake Nokomis Walk - Description: 6k & 11k walk.  Trail follows city sidewalks and around Lake Nokomis and the Lagoon.  Rating: 1  Special Programs: C

Minneapolis: Minnehaha Creek - Description: 5k & 10k walk.  New Route! Walk along beautiful Minnehaha Creek. 10k route includes the historic Longfellow House and Minnehaha Depot.  Rating: 1  Special Programs: A, C, M, R

Minneapolis: Lake of the Isles - Description: 10k walk.  Walk through the Sculpture Gardens, Kenwood District and around Lake of the Isles.  Rating: 1+ Special Programs: A, D, J, M

Minneapolis: Nicollet Island - Description: 5k & 10k walk.  This trail begins on Nicollet Mall, goes through the St. Anthony Falls area, refurbished Nicollet Island, the Mississippi River walkways and parts of downtown Minneapolis.  Rating: 1, pets okay.  Special Programs: D, F, H, I, J, T

Minneapolis: University of Minnesota - Description: 5k & 11k walk.  Historic Minneapolis walk.  Walk along Nicollet Avenue, over the Stone Arch Bridge, along and over the Mississippi River and through the campus of the University of Minnesota.  Rating: 1+  Special Programs: C, D, J, M, R, T, W

The Start Point for these three walks is: The Millenium Hotel, 1313 Nicollet Mall  Times: walk during daylight hours any day  Awards: B awards available  Directions: The Millenium Hotel is located between South 13th and Grant Streets in downtown Minneapolis (612-332-0371 for reservations only).  From the north: take I-94 east to the 4th St exit.  Go right on 2nd Ave and then right on Grant Street for 2 blocks.  Go right on Nicollet for 1 block.  From the south: take I-35W north to the 11th Street exit.  Go left on 2nd Ave and then right on Grant Street.  Go right on Nicollet for 1 block.  Comments: Parking is available in the hotel ramp for a fee, if none is found on the street.  There are parking meters in many places, but not all.  Watch meter time limits.  Contact: Bonnie Johnson, (763) 571-8041

 

St. Paul: Minnehaha Falls - Description: 5k & 10k walk.  This trail winds along St. Paul streets to the Mississippi River and across Ford Parkway bridge to Minnehaha Park.  Walk on paved paths to the historic John Stevens and Longfellow houses.  Special Programs: C, M, R, T, W

St. Paul: Three College Campus - Description: 5k & 10k walk.  This walk is through St. Catherine's College, St. Thomas University, Macalester College and by the Mississippi River.  Pets okay.  Special Programs: T

The Start Point for these two walks is: Super America Station, 2051 Grand Ave, St. Paul, MN  Times: walk during daylight hours  Awards: B awards available  Directions: From I-94, take Cretin Ave south to Grand Ave.  Go east (left) to Cleveland.  Street parking only - please DO NOT park in the station's lot. St. Paul: State Capitol - Description: 5k & 10k walk.  This trail has mostly flat, paved sidewalk with some inclines to the State Capitol and the Cathedral and winds through historic areas of St. Paul.  Walk past the Music Tech College, William Mitchell School of Law campus & Mississippi River.  Rating: 2  Special Programs: C, D, J, M, S, T, U, V

St. Paul: Summit Avenue - Description: 5k & 10k walk.  This trail goes along Grand Avenue to the Mississippi River and back along beautiful and historic Summit Avenue, passing the Governor's Mansion.  Rating: 1  Special Programs: J

The Start Point for these two walks is: Super America Station, 925 Grand Avenue, St. Paul  Times: walk during daylight hours  Directions: Take I-94 east or west to Dale St exit.  South on Dale to Grand Ave.  West (right) on Grand to corner of Milton and Grand.  Street parking only - please DO NOT park in the station's lot.  Contact: Gary DeVore, (651) 738-1833
