2019 Seasonal Events

 

You can walk seasonal & year-round events for event credit over and over and over again!  Walk as often as you wish and stamp your books each time.

Awards/Fees - Awards may be available: prices vary.  IVV-Credit only: $3.  Non-credit: $2.

*web registration (Crocus Hill, Carver Park & Crow-Hassan Walks): Please use the online start box provided by the California Volkssport Association website (www.cva4u.org). Follow the left side link, 'Online Start Box' and the instructions provided to sign a waiver and register for the event. Payments for event credit and directions use Paypal. The directions and insert cards are PDFs that you can download and print as needed. The POC does not provide event directions or accept alternate payment methods. The entire online process should take less than 10 minutes for a first time user.

 

Bloomington: Nine Mile CreekDates: April 1 - Oct. 31, 2019 (+Group walk Sun, Aug. 18 at 3pm with potluck picnic after the walk.) Start Point: 10000 Colfax Avenue South (private home)  Times: dawn to dusk  Description: 5k & 10k walk.  Walk is in Nine Mile Creek Valley with some residential areas. Porta-potty at park.  Rating: 1A, pets okay  Special Programs: Bridges, City Parks, Louisiana Purchase  Directions: From north: I-35W south to 98th St exit.  Cross 98th Street and continue on Dupont.  Veer left around tennis center to 100th St (1st street behind the tennis center).  Turn right on 100th St and go one block to 10000 Colfax Ave.  From south: I-35W, exit at 98th St.  Turn left at stop light, cross over the bridge, turn left onto Dupont, and follow directions above.  Park on street.  Start box is located in backyard of a private home, under the picnic table.  Contact: Ken & Jane Legaard, (952) 881-5524, This email address is being protected from spambots. Bloomington: Bass Ponds Walk - Dates: April 1 - Sept. 30, 2019 Start Point: Country Inn & Suites, 2221 Killebrew Dr., Bloomington, MN Times: dawn to dusk Description: 8k & 11k walk. Walk from the Mall of America area into the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge along the Minnesota River. Pass the rehabilitated Cedar Ave Bridge and through the Bass Ponds and Long Meadow Lake areas. Mostly woodchip and packed dirt natural trails with some city streets and sidewalks near the start/end point. Rating: 2B, pets okay, Restrooms at start point, porta-potty 4k at bridge Special Programs: Bridges, Doin' the Louisiana Purchase Directions: From I-494, take exit 2C south for Cedar Ave (Hwy 77) then immediately exit onto Killebrew Dr which runs along the south side of the Mall of America. New!  Carver Park Reserve Walk  - web registration only (www.cva4u.org) Dates: April 1 - Sept. 30, 2019 Start Point: Carver Park Reserve, 1400 Steiger Lake Ln, Victoria, MN 55386 Description: Walk hard surfaced trails through a reforested area. You may spot trumpeter swans, osprey, white-tailed deer and a variety of waterfowl and songbirds. Rating: 1A, pets ok Directions: From Eden Prairie: From I-494, take US212/MN-5 W and continue on MN-5 to Victoria. Approaching Victoria, you will see a sign indicating Steiger Lake Lane to the right. New!  Crow-Hassan Park Reserve Walk  - web registration only (www.cva4u.org) Dates: April 1 - Sept. 30, 2019 Start Point: Crow-Hassan Park Reserve, 12595 Park Dr, Rogers, MN 55374 Description: 6k & 10k. Walk through mixed forest and prairie, and along the Crow River. Scenery is similar to what Minnesota was like in the 1850s. Trails in the park are gravel, grass, dirt and sand. Rating: 2B, pets ok Directions: From Mpls, take MN-55 NW through Plymouth to traffic light at Hennepin County 19 intersection in Corcoran. Right (N) on 19. At 109th Ave, continue north to 203 and turn left to park entrance on Ghostley Rd. Turn left into park to parking lot ~3/10th mile into the park. Duluth Lake Superior Walk - Dates: April 1 - Sept. 30, 2019 Start Point: Duluth Comfort Suites, 408 Canal Park Drive, Walk box is located on a lower shelf near the sofa in the front lobby. Please do not unnecessarily distract the staff at this very busy hotel. Times: dawn to dusk Description: 6k & 10k walk. Trail starts at Canal Park and winds along the boardwalk on the shore of Lake Superior. Route includes downtown area and crosses the historic Aerial Lift Bridge. Rating: 1B, pets okay Special Programs: Boardwalks, Bridges, City Parks, Louisiana Purchase, Ports of Call  Directions: From I-35, take exit 256B for 5th Ave W. Continue driving past 5th Ave & Harbor Drive, to S Lake Ave. Turn right. Stay left - road becomes Canal Park Dr. Do not park in the hotel parking lot unless you are a registered guest. New! Littlefork Walk - Dates: April 1 - Sept. 30, 2019 Start Point: Home Town Motel, 112 Main St, Littlefork, MN 56653, (218) 278-4788 Times: 8am-dusk Description: 5k, 8k & 13k. Walk to and on the Paul Bunyan/Blue Ox trail (former railroad line) and in the city of Littlefork. Rating: 1A, wheelchairs on 5k only, pets must be leashed. Special Programs: City Parks Directions: From the Twin Cities, drive 300 miles north via I-35, US53 and MN217. Maplewood Walk - Dates: April 1 - Oct. 31, 2019 Description: 5k & 10k. Walk on regional park trails and boardwalk around multiple lakes. Includes vantage point for viewing an eagle's nest on the north side of Keller Lake. Seasonal restroom available in park.

The Start Point for both events is: 1994 Payne Ave, Maplewood (private home). The walk box is on the front porch. Rating: 1A Special Programs: Animal Safari, Boardwalks, Louisiana Purchase, Directions: Exit I-35E at Roselawn (first exit south of Hwy 36). Go east 3/4 mile to Payne Ave and turn left. Start Point is the last house on the right. Minneapolis: Cedar Lake Walk - Dates: April 1 - Sept. 30, 2019 Start Point: The Kenwood Restaurant, 2115 W 21st St., Minneapolis Times: 8am - 8pm Tues - Sun (closed Mondays) Description: 7k & 10k. Walk through the lovely Kenwood neighborhood including a circuit around lightly-used Cedar Lake. Rating: 1A, pets okay Special Programs: Louisiana Purchase Directions: From I-94W, take Lyndake Ave exit 231B. Following the signs for southbound Lyndale Ave, bear right onto Hennepin Ave S. At the first light, turn right onto W Franklin Ave and go 0.8 mile to Penn Ave (Kenwood Park will be on your right). Turn left 1 block to the start point near the corner of Penn Ave S & W 21st St. On-street parking available on the side streets. Minneapolis: Minnehaha Creek Walk -  Dates: April 1 - Sept. 30, 2019 Start Point: Caribou Coffee, 4745 Cedar Ave S Times: M-Sat: 5am - 9pm, Sun: 6am - 9pm, Call 612-724-1234 to verify hours. Description: 5k & 10k walk.  Walk along beautiful Minnehaha Creek. 10k route includes the historic Longfellow House and Minnehaha Depot. Rating: 2A Special Programs: Bridges, Louisiana Purchase Directions: Located on the NE corner of Cedar Ave and Minnehaha Parkway. From I-94: go south on Cedar Ave approximately 3 miles. From Crosstown Hwy 62: go north on Cedar Ave approximately 2 miles. Park behind SuperValu grocery store next door. Stillwater WalkDates: May 1 - Oct. 31, 2019 Start Point: Ann Bean Bed & Breakfast, 319 W. Pine St., Stillwater  Times: daily, 8am - dusk  Description: 5k & 10k walk. St. Paul: Crocus Hill Walk - web registration only (www.cva4u.org) - Dates: April 1 - Oct. 31, 2019 Start Point: Linwood Recreation Center, 860 St. Clair Ave, St. Paul, MN 55105 Times: M/W: 7am-9pm, Tu/Th: 6am-9pm, Fri: 7am-6pm, Sat: 9am-1pm, Restrooms at the start point are available during recreation center hours. Description: Crocus Hill, also known as Summit Hill, is one of the oldest and most popular neighborhoods in St. Paul. It's a treasure of history, architecture, distinctive pedestrian-oriented shopping and dining experiences, and strong community connections. It includes fashionable, well-preserved Victorian-era dwellings and other historic architectural treasures. Trail is paved sidewalks with some moderate hills. Rating: 1A Directions: From the south: take I-35E northbound to Ayd Mill Road exit 104B to St. Clair Ave. Turn right.
