2021 Year-Round Events

 

Year-round events (YREs) are available from January 1 through December 31.  You can now walk seasonal & year-round routes for event credit over and over and over again!  Walk as often as you wish and stamp your books each time.

Awards/Fees - Awards may be available: prices vary.  Credit only: $3.  Non-credit: $2.

Bloomington: Mall of America Walk - Start Point: Country Inn & Suites, 2221 Killebrew Dr.  Times: daily, during mall hours, usually 7am to 9pm  Description: 5k & 10k.  Round-trip from hotel to mall is 1k. Each level (1-3) is 1k.  Please respect shoppers.  Rating: 1A  Special Programs: Ice Cream Parlors Directions: The Mall of America is located between 24th and Cedar Avenue just south of I-494.  Go east on I-494 to Cedar Avenue (Hwy 77) exit 2C, then take Killebrew Dr.  Turn right into Country Inn & Suites motel across from the Mall. NEW!  Maple Grove Community Center Swim - WEB REGISTRATION ONLY using the AVA Online Start Box (https://my.ava.org). Detailed location and driving directions to the event starting point are included in the walk directions downloaded from the AVA Online Start Box. The POC does not provide event directions nor accept alternate payment methods. Description: Participants must reserve pool time and pay $7 (resident) or $8 (non-resident) pool fee and get a wrist band at the front desk. The pool is downstairs. Swimming events qualify for event credit only, not distance. The lap pool is 25 yards long. It takes 13 lengths or 6.5 laps to swim 300 meters. Walking the lap pool takes 26 half-lengths or 13 half-laps. The middle of the pool is marked by the only green tile running horizontally at the bottom of the pool. Walking one third of the lap pool takes 40 one-third lengths or 20 one-third laps. Walking 300 meters in the leisure pool takes 30 lengths or 15 laps going from the wall across from the bubble bench to the yellow and green rope at the bottom of the water slide. Comments: To maintain social distancing, the pools are available by reservation only. To make reservations, see the Sign Up Genius link or QR code on the swimming pool page of the Maple Grove Community Center. The pool is closed for maintenance Sept. 7-26. If you or a member of your party are not feeling well, please do not visit the facility. Minneapolis: Lake Nokomis Walk - WEB REGISTRATION ONLY using the AVA Online Start Box (https://my.ava.org). The POC does not provide event directions nor accept alternate payment methods. Description: 5k & 10k walk. Lake Nokomis was previously named Lake Amelia in honor of Captain George Gooding's daughter, Amelia, in 1819. Its current name was adopted in 1910 to honor Nokomis, grandmother to Hiawatha. Open dawn to dusk. Rating: 1A, pets okay

 

 

City of Osseo Walk - Start Point: Osseo Laundromat, 319 Central Ave, Osseo, MN 55369 Description: 5k & 10k. Walk goes north to Rush Creek Regional Trail into Elm Creek Park Reserve then winds south past EC Elementary, pedestrian bridge over 610, to Osseo Middle School, Osseo Post Office, Osseo clock tower, Osseo Press and back to start point on Central Ave. Special Programs: Mayflower - 400th Anniversary Walk, Rockin' Around the Clock, Walking with America's Veterans Directions: The first exit on Hwy 169 south of 610 is for 93rd Ave N. Take the 93rd Ave N exit from 169 and turn west. Turn left onto Central Ave. Laundromat on Central is between 4th & 3rd St NE on the right, across from Dean's Supermarket. St. Paul: MN State Capitol Walk - Start Point: Speedway, 925 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55105 Times: walk during daylight hours Description: 7k & 10k. This walk is mostly on flat, paved sidewalks with some inclines. It winds through historic areas of St. Paul, past historic churches, veterans memorials, the MN State Capitol, Minnesota History Center, and the Excel Energy Center (St. Paul Civic Center).  Rating: 2A  Special Programs: State Capitals, Walking with America's Veterans, Rockin' Around the Clock Directions: Take I-94 east or west to Dale St exit.  South on Dale to Grand Ave.  West (right) on Grand to corner of Milton and Grand.  Street parking only - please DO NOT park in the station's lot.  Contact: Lynne Grigor, (763) 780-4567, This email address is being protected from spambots. St. Paul: Minnehaha Falls/Ford Dam Walk - WEB REGISTRATION ONLY using the AVA Online Start Box (https://my.ava.org). The POC does not provide event directions nor accept alternate payment methods.  Description: 5k & 10k. Minnehaha Falls is a wilderness waterfall in an urban setting located in one of the city's oldest and most popular parks. The Ford Dam was built in 1917 to power a For plant in operation until 2011. Two 5km options are available: one to the falls and one to the dam.
