Transportation

Public Transit

If you plan on flying into the Twin Cities and don't plan on renting a car, you can still see much of downtown fairly easily.  Downtown Mpls and St. Paul are well-served by the bus system and there's also a light rail that connects the airport to both downtown Mpls in the north and the Mall of America to the south.

While many of the TCV year-round/seasonal events are in areas that are less accessible by public transit, there are three that are relatively convenient.  From the airport, you can take the light rail south to the Mall of America (if the weather is bad or you’re in the mood for some shopping). There are also two easily accessible walks if you take the light rail north to downtown Mpls. and get off at the Nicollet Mall Station. From there, you can then take a bus (check the Transit Trip Planner for bus numbers) to the corner of Nicollet Av S & Grant St E. There you’ll find the Mpls Convention Center - the starting point for the Lake of the Isles, Nicollet Island and University of Minnesota walks. These will take you past many of the highlights of downtown Minneapolis.
